Hello. I am trying to help my friend with something.
He is trying to achieve an HDMI cable run of 30 feet.
At one end, he has a playstation with an HDMI output.
On the other end, he has a projector device with an HDMI input.
Previously, he purchased an HDMI cable which is 30 feet long, but it does not work. Either it flickers a lot, or it does not work at all.
He is open to different types of solutions. He has a lot of flexibility. He is in the construction business so it is very easy for him to try different things.
The budget for this is approximately $300. Obviously, it would be nice to find something a lot less than that.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

If it flickers or does not work at all at different times then I would guess it is either a bad cable or bad connections at the plugs, either the cable or the hardware ?
I ran a 25' HDMI cable for my daughter, from her PC to her 42" LCD and she has been using it for just over a year now with no issues and it was just a cheap one from Newegg, like $20.00.
I am pretty sure there are people here who have run them longer than 30' with no issues. -
Your friend could try another HDMI cable with heavier gauge wires. If that doesn't help an active HDMI equalizer extender might. It is better to get one that can be plugged into the wall if the power delivered by HDMI is insufficient, as is sometimes true.
Here is one example:

Note that the wall adapter isn't supplied with the item above, and needs to be purchased separately if needed.

Your friend would also need another piece of cable to add the equalizer extender between the PS3 and the projector. -
I'm using a 50 foot HDMI cable from Monoprice to my projector from two PCs over a splitter and from a BD player with a switch and it's worked great with all for four years so far.
The cost for a 30 footer should be $30 - $40US at the most.

But some setups (Projectors and PC, etc.), have problems with HDMI. Blame Hollywood for that. The devices have to communicate with each other or the setup can fail.
If you have a Blu-ray player to try in place of the PlayStation, give that a try. If it works correctly, then you may not have a cable problem. Same with the projector.
Substitute a TV with HDMI inputs. But most likely if you have a cheap cable, that may be the only problem. -
It may work or not - depends from many factors:
integrated circuits quality (transmitter and receiver), overalquality for design, cabe etc.
as suggested go for good cable (certified - 30ft or not it should have valid certification), reduce video output mode to for example 1080p30 (i30) or use mentioned HDMI equalizers - as an alternative go for HDMI to Twisted Pair extender/converter - usually they are able to provide even more that 100ft over typical computer TP cable. This kind f devices are common in CCTV/security TV installations - they should fir in planned budget.
