Google is very stupid ... Instead of buying boast codec for $ 120 million, you have to fight for the hearts common people, and not of corporate bastards!
If last year (when there was very weak HEVC) they actively disseminate (agitated) your codec VP9 on torrent sites, or even set up your / to take under her wing developers http://acestream.org/ - it seems VideoLAN, then the situation could very changes.

Google aims to release new versions of its codec every year and a half.A release of VP10 is likely in early 2015.

And I am also curious about "The Next Generation Internet Video Codec" by schweinsz, author of the DiAVC decoder...

I don't see any reason why it would be better, just like I don't see why VP9 is any better than H264.

It's not that it's better, it's that it's ROYALTY FREE.......
That is a BIG PLUS to any huge corporation like Google. It's all about dollars, cents and the bottom line.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -

bdbitrate <- what's that? Does hte mean a 10% dB gain when using PSNR as metric? (shouldn't that be easily doable by boosting the smoothing/deblocking)
reading it's comments over the past few years I guess:
a. the encoder will not be free (and closed source)
b. it will only run on windows
c. there will only be a directshow decoder
d. patents might be a problemusers currently on my ignore list: deadrats, Stears555, marcorocchini -
Yet do not underestimate the quality of the programming (or for you x265 is the crown / an indisputable)
Soon learn all the tricks. -
