Both are great except KMplayer is trying to sneak in stuff onto your computer. Even paying close attention to the install steps for updates or new installs, I still get stuff installed from KMPLayer. The only reason I use the thing is because of the easy bookmark feature. I've have not figured out if VLC has that. If it does have an easy bookmark then I would kiss KMPlayer goodbye forever. The damn KMPlaayer from Korea guy has gotten too aggressive. Sucks. VideoLan NEVER installs unwanted stuff. Anyone know about an easy bookmark solution for VLC?

Everything seems fine. One question though, and it is one Ihave never been able to figure out. I often use Virtual Dub. All videos are not playable because of "no audio decompressor could be found". Why is that and how can it be corrected?

What is the audio codec in the videos that you can't open in virtualdub? Identify with mediainfoxp.
You might have to install for example an ac3 acm codec. -
As far as I know PotPlayer developer gives us an option to download his codec bundle so we have more decoding libraries to choose from for internal decoders. If you go to 'Preferences' - 'Filter Control' and in your case 'Audio Decoder' and you don't want to use external codecs (LAV filters seem to be OK if you want to), let's say for AC3 you switch to 'Built-in Decoder(Recommended)' and then you click the square on the right to get to the settings of internal decoder. You have FFmpegminimum.dll, OpenCodecUnity.dll(libA52), FFmpeg.dll and Libav.dll for AC3. You have this choice for all audio and video internal decoders. There's a chance that at least one of them will work. You can get to the settings by clicking 'Built-in codec (S/PDIF, HDMI) settings' too.

FFmpegminimum.dll is the one you should keep or potplayer can't decode AAC/AAC LATM/AC3/EAC3/TrueHD/MLP/DTS. It was built-in codec before but separated while launching a global version. FFmpeg.dll and Libav.dll are optional.
additional codec

Cannot verify it with a captured audio. Original source or part of it is required.

Well, you should reset the player in preferences and try it again after restarting.
ps. if you still have a problem, post the following info.
- "advanced playback info" in case of kmplayer: ctrl+tab and press "copy" button while playing the problematic video.
- "playback info" in case of potplayer: right click on potplayer while playing and click playback/system info.. then press "copy to clipboard" and paste it here.Last edited by sheppaul; 19th Sep 2014 at 06:57.

It has solved my problem thanks but i have few questions. The volume normalizer is enabled by default on both players so how can't it be that you don't have any problems and i have on default settings? And i often see that people on this forum don't recommend to use a codec pack so which codecs should i install on my sistem for software like subtitle workshop or subtitle edit?
And do you know answer to my question about vlc in this topic https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/367202-VLC-Windows-8-1-8-Bug%28MKV-stuttering-and-lagging%29
Is it a vlc bug or a problem with my pc? And many people with players like MPC-HC or pot recommed madvr so is my sistem enaugh powerfull for madvr with NNEDI3 image doubling because in this guide https://imouto.my/configuring-potplayer-for-gpu-accelerated-video-playback-with-dxva-o...ware-decoding/ it says that for NNEDI3 image doubling you must have a 290x but i have MSI GTX 760 2GB TF IV GAMING OC and amd fx8320(cpu)Last edited by pavjos777; 20th Sep 2014 at 08:02.

Well, I think it can vary depending on playback environment. I don't use any codec pack by myself. Lav filters would be enough for subtitle workshop or subtitle edit if those subtitle editors support directshow playback. As for subtitle edit, IIRC, vlc can be used for its playback.
I'm usnig windows 8.1 x64 but I have no problem with VLC. I don't use madVR & reclock as I can't see any distint differences in my desktop environment. There is nothing much to say about this. If you do not have a big screen or expensive dac for sound system, EVR and directsound is enough to enjoy. -
