Stop feedback loops - MUTE the other voices! (or SOLO the mike voice)

Isolate your microphone - use a echo-cancelling mikes, add sound absorption panels to the area around your mike, and be VERY CLOSE to the mike (compared to everything else).

Why do you care if the video is paused or not?
Either use a still repeated over & over again throughout the length of the audio segment, or just MUTE/DISABLE the video playback (however, this cannot be done WHILE in the middle of recording - it has to be chosen prior to recording).

If you expect more detailed/informative answers, you'll have to give more detailed/informative setup requisites. Sounds like you're doing something quite wrong, but we can't tell with that bare minimum of info.

  3. thanks for the reply,..

i did just end up using stills. chopped up the video in sections and then recorded the audio to each section using stills at the point i needed to keep talking but have the video paused. is outputting now but i think it worked

its a work around until i get a beast of a system so that i can just record audio and video at the same time..

    cheers

It normally doesn't require one to have a "beast" system just to record audio & video at the same time. All depends on your parameters (resolution, framerate, codec...), and on your overhead, etc.

Still no idea what you're really doing...
