I don't have the HD-PVR Rocket, but the usual first step when trouble-shooting a non-functional electronic device is to check whether or not the device is receiving power.

Is the strip running along the sides of the HD-PVR Rocket lit/green? If not, is the USB power cable connected to both the game console/PC and the HD-PVR Rocket? (Yes, I know it seems silly to check something this obvious, but humor me. Last week I thought perhaps my mother's DVD player had died, but when I checked, it turned out that the plug was not pushed all the way into the electrical outlet.)

    - If you haven't yet format the USB flashdrive(set it to NTFS).
    - make sure your USB flashdrive pass the min speed of 2.5.
    - Also sometimes it takes about 10 to 15 seconds before the rocket picks up the drive.
    - Lastly make sure you have the latest firmware for the Rocket.

    --------

Side note I had to send my rocket back the other day. You could just gotten defective unit, call company up and ask for a replacement.

  4. Can you give me any tips, I must be updating the firmware incorrectly, it does not work when i use the flash drive option or without it. I'd like to update to be able to record one file without splitting files into 2 gb chunks. I tried with the analog components on a HD channel and the recording stopped after about an hour. I don't see how an owner of the Rocket stated on Newegg that their device recorded a whole 4 hours onto a flash drive. What can i do to be able to record with component without stopping after 1 hour and with no file splitting from the firmware?

Did try the windows ver ?
    It really easy to do
1: Just plug in Black Color USB in to your USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 on your PC
2: Download (Upgrade your Rocket from your PC) then Install Firmware version 37 (it should install the drivers to for this device)
You can check this by install the Hauppauge Capture Tool then click on the Advanced button from the menu box you see Firmware it should say 3.1.1.35.37 then you all up date

What the make, model and size of that flash drive do you have? you can use the below tool to find this out.
Check the write speed by doing Flash Benchmark Test on it make sure your above 2.5MB/sec all the way down 4KB.
    Down this Tool http://usbflashspeed.com/

    Download BootIce
    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/restoring-your-usb-key-partition/
Fellow step 1 thur 4 just format it as NTFS

  6. Thanks SHS for your info. i attempted to try both of the firmware options. The flashdrives dont have a brand printed on them. They just say USB2.0 32GB. Do you know what specific flash drive brand and GB capacity that would work right away for the pvr rocket without needing to check the usb key partition or the speed?

Checking the usb key partition has to do with flashing red light if at one point in time you have install a boot OS on it so another words if new flash stick then shouldn't be a problem other then format as NTFS.
That Tool I posted a link to is also use full for other info like the drive vendor make and model
    I have a SanDisk Cruzer Glide 32GB
Maybe the drive you have is really isn't a 32GB maybe it some kind counterfeit fake drive so that they appear to have much more capacity than is physically on them.
    Do read this http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/-fake-usb-flash-memory-drives
Do have any smaller 8/16GB stick try test it on HD-PVR Rocket

  9. to SHS : i got the same cruzers 32gb that you said you got but write speed is under 2 with the usbflash tool. i thought this tool would benchmark to speed it up to normal. How can i speed it up because any time it records it gets choppy and glitchy for a couple seconds throughout the whole recording. I tried my old 2gb pny and it doesnt get choppy at all & my third old flash drive was working fine & just after a couple weeks it records a non playable file & wont work even when formatting the drive.

  11. i dont understand exactly what youre sayin. if just 1 spot on this chart is above 64kb its fine? if that is fine why does the recording glitch throughout? I am using the hdmi cable for standard and HD recording. I dont think it should matter since my other flash drive didnt glitch with the hdmi.

Pleases post a screenshot of usb flash speed benchmark from both the 2GB and 32GB you have
Also get MediaInfo post a screenshot of it as from recoding off flash stick
Have you talk to hauppauge about?.

  13. the mediainfo didnt work, however i dont think its necessary. do you have a pvr rocket? if you do not, i think its just whatever certain brands of flash drives will work on the rocket without the freezing glitches. i read on Newegg i think, that a review said it gets pixelated. this may be what they're referencing. I contacted Hauppauge months ago via email and they didnt reply, not surprisingly.

By the way when you format it to NTFS you pick default allocation size ? which be 4096 bytes your can check by reformat it which should display what you had format it as.
Ok I see is there any reason why you haven't call them ?, you could just email me all your contact info to shspvr @ shspvr.com or hotmail.com I pass it on to hauppauge some time there email doesn't get thru even for me, That is possible but it shouldn't make any diff I take that Live Preview works?.

  17. yep 4096 with a checked quick format , can i change the allocation size, without ruining anything, to see if it'd work? i havent called hauppauge but emailed them several months ago on a different email & no response ( i read that someone said their service when tryin to contact them isnt good) . and by Live Preview what does that mean? is that the preview window on the Hauppauge Capture software? that does work & i noticed that in pc mode i have no issues with the glitch, only pc free mode.
