I am trying to run a video from my powerpoint presentation.
The video is in MP4 format, but powerpoint did not accept this format.
Re-saved as AVI but am now told that the codec is missing.
I am told that I need the following codec: H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Video (AVC1).
I have tried several downloads, but cannot get round this problem.
I am running Powerpoint 2003 & XP Pro
What have I done wrong
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

Did you try install x264 VFW Codec ?
-
Thanks. This has resolved the codec problem.
However, nothing runs. Set up as follows:
.
Action Settings: Play on Mouse click
Hide while not palying
Zoom to full screen -
When presentation run,
you suppose to click on video window to play -
Have tried running it with click & without; also to run automatically when I go the the slide.
Have also tried to run n Windoes Media Player & get another Codec errpr message.
Web Help says I need: ISO/MPEG-4 Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) (A106). -
Try install ffdshow and see if this solve error message
-
ffdshow installed.
Windows media player will now play MP4, but not AVI - calls for a codec
Powerpoint rejects MP4. With AVI, it provides a blank black screen -
Old version of Powerpoint best play with WMV files
better convert to WMV files to safe from errors -
Roma
Thanks again. Can you please point me to an MP4 to WMV converter please -
You can convert with Video to Video Converter

I'm glad it seems to work for you, but if you want it to work with the original as planned, it might still be possible.
How PPT plays media (which architecture) is determined mainly by which method you used to insert it. IIRC, there are 7 or 9 methods, including drag-n-drop, url, cut-n-paste, insert-object, etc. So you could use VFW, Directshow, QuickTime, or custom (e.g. VLC player). I have talked about this topic here before. Newer versions of PPT have easier video exporting, but have lost a few of those methods of inserting, but you needn't worry about that as you are using v2003.

Thanks for the advice, but I work on the principle of not wasting time. It works - that is all I wanted. -
OK. To each his own. Some people require the highest quality and prefer to work with their originals...
And, what I was suggesting doesn't take a lot of time (other than reading up on how to do it). No conversion, certainly.
