  1. I used to favor AVI as my container of choice, but having read up quite a bit this week, it appears now (yeah, I know.. bit late) is the time to change upgrade to the MKV/MP4 formats.

    Whats holding me back is holding me back from taking the plunge is that I could use AVI ReComp to get the videos to a specific size (ie. 3x1.4GB/2x2.1GB would ideally fit to a DVD), is there any software out there with a similar function for MKV or MP4?

    Oh, BTW, whats everyones preference? MKV or MP4? I watch videos from PC on a HDTV.

    I like VidCoder. Click on Settings and under the Video tab can you set the Target size.

    I use mkv. But if you want to play it on portable devices I would use mp4.

    With Handbrake being so popular, I'm surprised they don't have this implemented.
