  1. Right then, sometimes, when i open an avi file in virtual dub it throws up an error saying something about the need to uncompress the audio, and the audio in the avi file has x amount of skew.

It plays fine in virtual dub, but when i cut the file in half, the sound is out of sync with the audio, in both parts. I have followed the help guides for using virtual dub, but to no avail. I think a few people are asking about this, but not getting any answers either. Can anyone help??? The files I am trying to cut are near perfect quality, divx avi files.

I have tried avichop but its too basic.

  2. Fear not, for the fearless Rev. Jake shall cast down a nugget of wisdom from the mountain upon thee to ease thy burden and make thee happy and wise all of thy days.

Lo, and thou shalt ignore the warnings given unto thee by VirtualDub for thy audio. For yon VRB .mp3 audio recording is bad in the eyes of the LORD, and a cursed abomination unto VirtualDub and TMPGenc alike.

And yea, the LORD spake unto Rev. Jake, saying "For what reason doth Thelawns wish to split yon .avi files? For if he wishest to create MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 video, thy answer is simple indeed, and holy and right in the eyes of the LORD."

The LORD continueth unto Rev. Jake, saying "Shouldst Thelawn be splitting .avi files for fun, he is reprobate in Mine eyes, and shall be forsaken."

The LORD then sent down commandments, graven into tablets of stone, for the Rev. Jake to take to the huddled masses below, those cowering in dark and ignorance who wishest to create good video.

Thou shalt use yon "File" menu on VirtualDub to "save as .wav" for thy audio file.

Thou shalt ensure VirtualDub saves audio in yon uncompressed format.

Thou shalt not fear if thy .wav file shouldst be exceedingly large, for uncompressed PCM data is pleasing to the LORD in its largeness.

Thou shalt then remultiplex thy audio and video files, applying compression that is pleasing in the eyes of the LORD if thou wishest, solving thy sync issues.

If thou shouldst have more questions, thou shalt throughly search the VCDhelp forums and "how-to" section, lest the LORD strike thee down as a newbie too indolent to deserve His holy hand.

  3. Thankyou revjake.

Almost had it with that. I had tried that before, but i seem to of produced a better result this time.

However ... now, the sound still goes out of sync, then the video jumps a bit to try and sync with it. Its driving me round the bend this is. I have tried uncompressing the audio, compressing it in all the formats i have available in the comprssion list. Is there something i am missing?

I had this problem with another avi, and have since seen the proper version on DVD. I went back to it last night and i chopped it ... It worked, all in sync? I have no idea what is going on. Perhaps i should watch this current avi on proper DVD and then try, it'll probably work then. :o

    God moves in mysterious ways.
