VLC audio sync problem after conversion

I'm pretty new at this conversion stuff, so I need a little help.
I'm currently using the VLC media player to convert files into a .mp4 file so I can watch them on my blu-ray player seeing as it wont read the .avi files I have. I've noticed that about half the videos I've converted have a problem with the audio being synced up. I know if I'm watching the videos on my computer I can easily press the 'J' or 'K' key to adjust the audio timing (which is off by approximately 12,000 after the conversion), but I can't do that on my blu-ray player. can anyone tell me if there is a way to adjust the audio timing so that it syncs up after the conversion?

I would try convert with something else first. Like the free vidcoder. Convert to mp4.

RE: Baldrick Yes, you guided the O.P. to a program that worked, but you didn't answer his question. I too, am having the same problem. I've used PRISM and it works most of the time. But, just why is VLC not "ripping" in sync and can that be remedied?

Yes. I solved the problem. Try something else.

VLC might work better now 9 YEARS later though.
