I have had some problems lately, burning some files I downloaded to DVD. My prime burning program is VSOConvertxtoDVD, it appears to be set to burn iso image after conversion. The result is a coaster. Last night, today I have a pair of MKV files that I've tried to burn. Convertx same result as teh last time. AVS to DVD seems to have a problem with the second file. Videosoft, can't find a burning problem, couldn't add one of it's own.
Can someone give me an idea if it's these programs, my burner, or, what?

Post a log file of the one mkv file that wouldn't work in the AVStoDVD help thread: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/277852-AVStoDVD-Support-Thread
MrC is very good about offering advice.
And most of us around here use ImgBurn. -
Coasters are usually the result of bad quality media being burned too fast in my opinion. The only high quality media left in North America is Verbatim (avoid their Life series, but everything else is good) and Taiyo Yuden (you'll have to buy it online). Usually what happens in your situation is that someone like you bought Ritek, Memorex, TDK or similar landfill grade discs and they got burned at as a high a speed as possible, which is usually a recipe for making coasters. If you're unwilling to buy high quality media then try burning with ImgBurn and burn low quality media slowly, not more than 4x.
Recently I said something similar and some newbie got his panties all in a wad over it. I did not insult you or call you stupid or anything like that. I suggested that if you use the typical garbage quality media that is just about anybody can find in stores today that this is very likely your problem. That's not a personal insult at YOU, OK? Are we clear about that?
Finally, yes it could be your burner, especially if it's old. Really we need more details about the type of media you used, what you burned it with and what speed you burned at. Generally speaking, this issue is usually "bad media burned too fast" unless you can provide details to the contrary. -
I wasn't too sure if you were suffering a failed burn, or if the ISO files burned to the discs simply were not playing. Have you tried playing the ISO files you got from ConvertX on the computer? Open them with VLC, since it can play ISO files directly.
Or are you getting an error message in ConvertX about a failed burn? -
Change the settings in Convertxtodvd not to burn or make an ISO just make a standard VIDEO_TS folder and use IMGBurn to burn the disc.. Use high quality discs and as already suggested don't burn over X4.
