  1. I'm using the PVR rocket to record from my STB, and since my computer is upstairs, I have to use the standalone feature.

The quality is great, but when I try to cut/split the recordings, it doesn't work in VideoRedo. It will either not search correctly, or I'll make all the cuts and at the end, it can't copy the stream and stops responding. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should use?

Here's what shows up in MediaInfo:

    General
    Format : MPEG-4
    Format profile : Base Media
    Codec ID : isom
    File size : 15.0 GiB
    Duration : 1h 58mn
Overall bit rate : 18.1 Mbps
    Writing application : Lavf55.22.100

    Video

    Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0
    Bit depth : 8 bits

    Channel positions : Front: L R
    Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz
    Compression mode : Lossy
    Stream size : 161 MiB (1%)

Is the frame rate throwing off VideoRedo? I know I had that issue when trying to use handbrake files with a variable frame rate in the past.

Is there a way to make the standalone feature use a constant bitrate?

What container are you using to record? Hauppauge's version of mp4 is reportedly problematic for a lot of people. .ts often works better.

I don't think that VBR in and of itself causes a problem. I have used VideoReDo TV Suite H.264 to successfully edit VBR recordings from a different Hauppauge HD Capture device, although the overall bitrate was much higher for your files. However, MediaInfo says your recordings have a variable frame rate, and that is a problem.

Oh, the second one was supposed to say frame rate, too.

But yeah, it's mp4 and that's the only way it records in standalone.

I don't know how to fix the .mp4 problem, other than re-muxing to a more standard .mp4 file or to .ts.

Is there any chance that your recording includes video using more than one resolution? That is a common problem when recording from a cable box or satellite receiver. Not all channels/menus use the same resolution and frame rate by default. Try to find out if your STB is set up to output 720p60 only.
