How to cut mkv files WITH subs?

Hi
i have 2 mkv's & 2 avi's.
i have srt files for them.
i need to cut parts from them WITH the subtitles... how could i do that without the need to hardcode the entire files & then cut them?

Somewhat contradictionary. But if you need hardcoding then do as in the first quote: Hardcode the source and make the cuts in the hardcoded vesion.

i ment that i don't want to do the entire thing just parts of it.
cut small parts from a big file that has srt file
into smal parts with hardcoded subs

Then the first thing that spring to mind: Use an encoder where you select start/end to encode with hardcoded subtitle. MediaCoder could be one.

In this manner there is no need for cutting the video nor editing/sync your subtitle.

I don't know Hebrew. Just had Subtitle Edit translate an english text and this is what a got. I take that your .srt´s are properly formatted so it shouldn't be a problem?

If your SRTs are saved as UTF-8, UTF-16 or UCS-2, then VSFilter should have no problems with them.

Please upload a copy of your SRT file to this thread.

i can only choose ANSI but after that i need to choose WINDOWS-1255
& i can't
not with MediaCoder & not with Handbrakes ...

"Codepages" are an ugly workaround from the 8-bit era.

If the applications you choose don't support at least one flavor of Unicode, well, good-luck then.

Since VSFilter can function as an Avisynth plugin, any encoder which supports AVS files should give you what you're looking for.

I know nearly nothing of written Hebrew, so you might at least say if the image below is or is not OK.

Sorry about that. I merely used a function in Subtitle Edit to use right-to-left and while it looks alright (RTL) in Subtitle Edit it wasn't carried on and I didn't check it careful enough.

So I tried exporting the subtitles as PGS from SE and I've just as much idea as El Heggunte about wether this looks OK or not.

In SE use Edit -> Right-To-Left mode and Edit -> Fix RTL via Unicode and export as PGS. Mux with MKVMergeGUI and MediaCoder using Default render for Subtitles will automatically use ID 0 (your PGS)

(It sounds to me as if your problem is more of a subtitle problem than a cut problem and that your subtitles is not properly formatted to begin with and need to be "fixed" but without knowning your subtitles it's hard to tell. And there may be other options/formats )

Because you refused to share your Hebrew SRT, I downloaded one from opensubtitles.org
And yes, it was created as UTF-8 text

BUT because anyone can upload **** that will remain on their servers "forever" until it is reported,
I could not be sure that I had gotten a valid file

i did a test & i think its ok
i need to check it with the original file

but its strange, why i need to Mux the sup file with MKVMergeGUI and after that give MediaCoder the same sup file again? the file already exist in the mkv

?? You don't have to do that. It's in the muxed MKV. Just use ID 0 (default)

And BTW I always use the portable version of SE and the option Edit -> Fix via Unicode has been there since vers 3.3.13
