It seems like Corel and Sony are the most newbie-accessible NLE's (AviDemux and VirtualDub are too feature-poor to count).

For this type of editing, something with multiple tracks makes it a lot easier . Eventually you'll want to get the circle or whatever highlight effect overlaid and positioned and possibly animated. Those types of tasks are difficult if not impossible to do in avidemux/vdub. A free editor alternative would be aviutl , but not as intuitive to use as corel videostudio or sony vegas movie studio . Yes, it's even possible to do with something like avisynth , but difficult and takes a lot longer to get the timing right
