  1. I was gonna search this site for this subject but the search page ain't workin-
I was using ULEAD DVD Moviefactory when i got to the burn screen when I was confronted with the advanced options and this proposed two SVCD formats, one described as SVCD Legacy format (described as mpegav, entrysvd) and another, SVCD standard format (mpeg, entryvcd).
Could anyone fill me in as to the differences cos i've looked over the entire web to no avail. I want the format that will be recoginised by most set top players and PC's, well overall really.
    thankyou all......

It is a hard question... You will have to see the manufactures of DVD standalone players to see its capabilities... I use Standard Option on my Nintaus N9901 DVD...

I suggest this should be used for now and for the new DVD players and you should only use the Legacy option for burning SVCD to people who owns those old DVD players...

    Here's the way it works:
MPEGAV ------------------> Where the movie file goes on a Standard VCD
MPEG2 --------------------> Where the movie file goes on a Standard SVCD
MPEGAV(On a SVCD) ---> Where the movie file goes on a Non-standard SVCD where the player is vcd compliant and is kind of 'tricked' in to playing the SVCD

My answer to your question, is go with the standard if you are producing SVCDs on a mass scale, if Jimmy-Joe-Bobby's $25 Mexian DVD player from payless shoe store can play a SVCD if it warms up on a region 10 DVD disc for 5.1 hours turned upside down in a tempature of 225 degrees celsius when the play button is pressed consecutivitly 300 times over a period of 3 seconds and if he crosses his eyes and has just polished of a 66er of moonshine and the movie file is in the MPEGAV folder, then let him screw with the standards. In other words, stick with the standards, if someone wants to screw around with a disc to get it to play, thats their problem. However if you are worried that most people won't be able to view your disc (unlikly someone would ask you for a SVCD unless they know they can play it anyway) go for good old vcd, if their player can even attempt to play SVCD you can assume it can play VCD.

    GOOD LUCK!
