Asking dumb questions like myself at the beginning of the thread, now we have spreadsheet, LUA scripting, Hitfilm2 and too many great ideas!

If you want to play with automated deshaking: shoot some video of your kid on a featureless background with some slight camera motion/rotation/zoom/etc. Then extract a few dozen still frames and see how well you can deshake them.
