I'm selling an old fat PS3. I thought it might be easier to sell with an upgraded hard drive. So I found a good deal on ebay on a WD 500 GB Scorpio Blue. No Seagate junk. I've run across a lot of issues with games not being able to access data on the hard drive. I did have to turn the system off quite a few times because of freezing issues. So I'm hoping that's the issue.
I'm running a full format on the drive right now in my PC. What I want to know is what would be the best software to thoroughly test the health of the hard drive. I don't want to sell someone junk. And if it is junk I want to know so I can get my money back.
Any suggestions on what the best program for this would be?

While it's in the PC you can use CrystalDiskInfo to check the SMART data and if you want to go even further use WD's Data Lifeguard Tool.
