I thought invert was for building masks. Yeah it does do a Negative effect.

I don't know about tmpgenc mastering works 5 but most video and image editors have an invert filter. VirtualDub has one. AviSynth has one. If you're trying to convert color negatives to positives a simple invert usually won't work well. You usually need to do a lot more processing to get the colors and levels right.

You might find that tool easier if you look for a color corrector that can rotate the hue 180 degrees.

I looked at the help for the Sony Invert tool, and that's what it does. Switches the color to its complement. And reverses the brightness.
Is that what makes it a negative? Reversing the brightness? -
pretty much. if you ever worked in a darkroom you might remember black parts of negatives create white images.

Probably. I don't use the program so I don't know for sure.
Probably. Most editors have an invert function.
But as I mentioned earlier, if you have (for example) scans of 35mm film a simple invert will not be enough. You'll need to further refine the gamma and colors based on the properties of that particular film stock. -
Maybe the OP didn't mean what you guys think. I'm thinking he meant rotate. Like he took cell phone photo upside down and want to 'invert' it to right side up.

Yes, you are probably correct. Reading his post #13 kinda implies he is trying to "invert" like you suggested.
