    Greetings ...

Please note that I wasn't sure if this is the right sub-forum for this particular type of question.

I am aware that there are devices for converting HDMI to either triple red-green-blue RCA jack component video or to single yellow RCA jack composite video. My question is what are the proper brand device(s) to buy, and where can such devices be bought for a reasonable price.

    Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Video

I have one for composite which is the yellow one. It doesn't really have a name. There is a barcode with a number on it - l2011410666 if it will help any.

Just search ebay or amazon for "hdmi to composite" or "hdmi to component" and you'll find various types of adapters that will fit your need.

That is not a common conversion and there isn't many converters like that. You realize that is a digital to analog conversion. Just a simple cable won't work.

The ones below are mostly HDMI to Component. HDMI to Composite would likely be cheaper but the picture may be low quality.

But there are a few at Amazon apparently priced between about $50 and $80 US. If this was a PC, probably better to use a video card.

But take a look here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hdmi+to+c...nent+converter

I would carefully read the customer reviews to make sure you get something that will work and is what you want.

Although people used to buy the types of converters you are asking about to use with older TVs and projectors, it is hard to find good quality products (for example, a genuine HDFury device) offered for sale in the USA anymore, and they are not now and never were inexpensive. If you want inexpensive devices, look on ebay or Amazon but they won't be a high-quality device, and may ship from China. Also you have to be careful because sometimes the listings are for component or composite to HDMI converters instead of the other way around.

Current HDMI licensing does not allow the production of a device that converts from HDMI to analog.

I have two. An HDFury 2 and a cheaper knock-off (a "Digitech" purchased from Jaycar in Australia from memory). The both work fine. The Fury is a more expensive unit, but seems to work slightly better and is the "gold standard" for reliable HDMI->Component conversions as far as I can determine. I have only tried PAL with the Digitech, but the Fury will handle both NTSC and PAL all the way up to 1080p.

Obviously, if you have a choice because of your equipment, convert to component rather than to composite. The quality will be much better.

  6. I have this:

    http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Component-Converter-Support-Surround/dp/B00B7GD44A/ref=sr_1...nent+converter

It works perfectly for capturing from my Roku (only HDMI output) to my original Hauppauge HD-PVR. Notice that there is an optical out for 5.1 audio. Also, it looks identical to the HDFury 2.

As a side note to the OP (a resident of the USA), since the real HDFury devices are illegal to sell in the USA, those who want one must order from overseas.
