  1. Why does this happen ...i have tried it with final fantasy and titan ae ...so its not as if its just one film thats wrong .... I set the vcd to Pal ...as thats all my player will play ....i have my motion search set to high quality ...iam using the audio ripped by virtualdub to wavs .....everything plays fine sound is in sync but the screan like jerks every couple of seconds .....only a slight jerk but never the less its not as smooth as the avi file is .....it even does it in the preview too ....so theres some setting i must have to set somewhere ......HELP PLEASE....my kids are driving me mad for these films ....ahahhah ...

the setiings for the avi files are as follows ...

    Width 576 pixels
    Height 320 pixels

    Duration 1:41:32
    Bitrate 127 kbps
    Audio Format MPEG Layer-3

    Frame Rate 23 frames/second
    Data Rate 117 kbps
    Video Sample Size 24 Bit
    Video Compression Divx Codec

and thats the same for both films ....

    Thanx ......

  2. If you open youe avi file in vdub and look at file properties you will probably see that the frame rate is 23.97 fps. This is the NTSC Film standard. You are converting this to PAL which is 25fps. Tmpgenc achieves this by repeating frames occassionally, hence the slight jerkiness. It is possible to do a smooth conversion, just search this forum and the howtos for an explanation, though it is a complicated process!

    Good luck

  3. I think all pal dvd/vcd players should be able to play ntsc discs.

I have a pal dvd/vcd player and Ive converted divx movies to ntsc film vcds without any problem.

Of course you get a slightly higher resolution if you do a proper pal conversion.

  5. When you tried to make ntsc vcds, did you make them ntsc film or just ntsc. It should be ntsc film since it has a framerate of 23.97.

What kind of player do you have?
I think all pal dvd players should have a switch on the back where you can select what you want it to output (just pal, just ntsc or source dependant).

  6. Just tried the ntscfilm option and watched it in preview and its a lot better ....is that why then ..cos the avi is ntsc .....and if so is there any way of getting past it ....so that it plays back good in pal ...or is my only option to rip the vcds to ntscfilm....???

  7. It is possible to convert a 23.976 fps avi to pal with smooth playback. In Tmpgenc only encode the video, with "do no framerate conversion" checked. You've go to rip the audio to an uncompressed wav file with Virtual Dub. Next you convert the wav to mp2 with Besweet (GUI) which has an option for compensating the speed difference, it's a checkbox marked 23.976 -> 25 fps. Then all you have to do is multiplex the audio en video with Tmpgenc mpeg tools.
