Hello group, I have a Tascam DR-40 and I've reviewed the manuals and tried some searches but couldn't find anything concrete about memory card speed recomendations. I have a PNY 32GB class 4 that I otherwise have no need for and I'm thinking it should fill the bill for audio but can't recall what max bitrates the unit deals with and was hoping someone could shoot a recomendation. Let me know what you think, thanks.

  2. It maxes out at 96khz @24bits. Speed isn't as big an issue as reliability, PNY should be fine.

    Yeah, 96/24/2ch = 750kB/second.
Class designation is a designation of guaranteed minimum sustained bitrate capability, where the Class = MBytes/second. So Class 4 = 4MB/sec. Well able to handle whatever a standard pro 2-ch or 4-ch sound recorder sends to it.

smrpix is on the money. Get enough storage space for your needs, Get duplicate cards so you can swap & transfer while recording, and by ALL means, get very high quality cards. PNY, Sandisc, Lexar, etc.

Okay, thanks guys. I figured the speed rating would be okay, good advice on the stability issues, I try to stick to PNY or Sandisk which I am familiar with their other products ; also have some Transcend cards because they seem to be pretty popular...
