Do you know of a program that can capture direct into .asf format?

I would use the Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7.1 that has the new Video 8 format that cleaner than most avi and asf files and import it into TMPGEnc Plus to do a direct capture but my Tv capture card sound does not work in it for some reason . I have a Pinnacle Systems Usb PcTv card and use a VCR for capturing videos but I can capture avi and convert it to that format and I have once before gotten the sound to work in it but this time I have had no luck, but I did convert once one of my movies from the new video 8 format to a SVCD format and it did work ok but when I did this I was using one of the old versions of TMPGEnc and I put it on two cds instead of one because I did not no the program much at the time .
Has anyone else use the new Microsoft Video 8 format and converting right using the TMPGEnc program?

like what type of avi video code did you use?
and how many hours did it take you to convert it?
I would like to know when Pinnacle Systems is going to have new drivers for the Pctv Usb card for Windows Xp Pro because it causes my card to reboot trying to capture avi files and also in the Video 8 program that I can not get to capture right anymore?

overall , I would say that the Movie that I did with the Video 8 format to SVCD format quality looks good.Even thou I ended up puting it on two cds. If I were to convert it again thou I would use the new TMPGEnc Plus program and set it up so it would end up on one cd.
By the way if you just what to know the movie that I did was the BeetleJuice Movie from VCR movie to Microsoft Video 8 format Movie then convert to 2 SVCD CDs which did work even thou I rest of the my home movies I would do on one 1 with the new tool that the TMPGEnc Plus provides.
