Not so obvious. You wanted easy, but for those willing to do some work the ability of one of USB devices to cap lossless AVI (as well as MPEG-2) trumps the ability of the ADVC since the DV-AVI it captures is lossy. Not as lossy as the DVD compliant MPEG-2 you'll get using the software included with the USB capture device, but lossy nonetheless.
Yeah, I figured out by looking at the manuals that the higher model number does not have the same Multi-System capability.

Ah, I see. In my world, if you buy a cheap external sound card to get your guitar into your Protools setup, the D/A converters are never as good as the ones in a decent mixer.

I guess the world you guys live in encompasses a lot of what we deal with in the audio world plus everything video. I never had any inkling that this would be as involved.

Still looking for a ~$200 Multi-system VCR that is available on eBay right now...
