  1. Windows 8 (and Ubuntu's Unity desktop) are designed specifically to cater to consumptive use of the computer.

    The computer "revolution" failed for all those that believed putting a PC in every home would inspire creativity and user-innovation. At the end of the day, the "average" home user just wants to:

    -check the scores
    -watch YouTube vids of dudes falling off skateboards
    -look at pics of the grandkids
    -Facebook, Netflix, whatever

    Microsoft (like everyone else) is pushing hard to monetise EVERYTHING, meaning, the only button on your computer that really matters any more is
    the BUY NOW! button.

    I agree ! Except as everything is becoming Subscription based. Software is no different then my phone company, that is cloud computing for you, it wasn't for the population it was for the corporations and businesses.
