I've got a raw DV file on my mac, and not much hard drive space.. there is an 'export to quicktime' option on iMovie, and I've tried exporting with various types of compression.
I exported straight to a 'Toast Video CD' format, which was fine for making a VCD, but I want to make an SVCD, which will require a higher resolution image (480 x 480) and so on. is there anything i can download that will allow me to export straight to an SVCD format, or can anybody recommend a codec already installed that i can convert to, then convert the resulting file into an SVCD format (i have media cleaner 5) ?

i was sitting right next to you when you posted this.. but seeing as this post now has 196 views with no replies, i'll share the solution i've stumbled upon. :p
if you export the footage from imovie to idvd format, instead of quicktime, it will produce a highly uncompressed .mov file that is decently sized to fit limited HD space, and perfect for encoding to MPEG2 for SVCD.
