I live in Bangkok where $2 pirate DVDs are common. Mostly I torrent downloads.
Recently, I downloaded multiple version of The Act of Killing and Blue Jasmine because on every single file, Cinavia kicked in with an error screen cutting the audio between 00:20 and 1:20:00 on my Pioneer BDP-150.
All 13 downloads of Kill Your Darlings were infected with Cinavia. Frustrated to the max, I decided to buy a copy on the street. You guessed it--Cinavia!
There is no effective converter to remove Cinavia and I don't have the time anyway. (Cinavia propagates through all converted file types.)
However, my understanding is that to enable Cinavia depends on one's Blu-ray player's firmware. It is required in all Blu-ray players sold in the US from June 2013.
I'm prepared to buy a new Blu-ray player. Does anyone have any ideas of the best copyright- and region-free models?
Alternatively, is there a hack I can apply to my Pioneer model?
I would also like to see a Cinavia category added to all DVD and Blu-ray players here!
Thanks in advance!
