  2. Look left...

    How To...Convert.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

If you look to the left of the site there is a section that has guides. 'HOW TO'. Now im not for sure but rumor has it, that the answer to your question will be covered under the 'CONVERT''HOW TO'.

  4. There's a program called DAT2MPG that you can use to convert it back to mpg format.

    You'll find it here. http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcdtools.htm

I have read the HOW TO CONVERT Guide but I do not find there any reference to converting avimpeg files back to mpg or avi format.

I was under the impression that WinOnCD converts the Tsunami MPEG encoded AVI capture files into a DAT format while making a VCD. But I find that they have an avimpeg extension. How does it differ from the DAT format?

Can VCD Gear or any other tool be used to convert these avimpeg files back to mpg or avi format? Otherwise how can I extract the audio from such files?

After posting the message, while doing trial and error checks, I found that the problem mentioned by me crops up only if I try to open the file with ATI's VCD/mpg file Player. When I open the file with Power DVD of Cyberlink, the same file on the same VCD shows up with a DAT extension.

Sorry to have posted the earlier message in haste.

  7. use vcdgear to convert .dat files back to mpeg. just open vcdgear, locate the .dat file, i assume it's from a cd, select the file and choose .dat to mpeg and save it. you can extract audio from both mpeg and avi files by using goldwave. get it at www.goldwave.com. just open the file and the program will deflash your file to disk (hd). but from what i've heard, not all dat files can be converted by vcdgear.
