  1. Interesting thread on Slysoft forum at the moment (with no comment yet from owner(s)).

    https://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?59779-What-does-this-mean

Direct link to newspaper article a few days ago: http://www.antiguaobserver.com/30k-fine-for-first-conviction-under-copyright-act/

Hope they can ride the US storm brewing.

History repeats. I still remember hurdles to DeCSS author.
It is time for Video Enthusiastic Community to come forward supportively and give a finger to MPAA / RIAA / AACS/LA & LA PEG LA.

Few weeks ago, one of Canadian Internet Service Provider was ordered to provide names of the clients who downloaded horrible hurt locker.

Rather than paying high licensing fees to US firms, It is time to kick out and sweep out all US influences from the rest of world, to keep their policy and practices effective just within home-land. First we start supporting (wrong things), and start crying when we get screwed later on.

Couldn't agree more. Considering this case dates back to 2010 and Antigua was given permission to suspend copyright on US intellectual property, it strikes me there is a corrupt judge enjoying a second income.

Edit: Can't access the Slysoft forum today...hope that's not a sign of things to come.

Scratch that, it's accessible now. Just a busy server.

According to the articles that were linked to, Antigua and Barbuda decided to suspend US intellectual property rights and monetize them in retaliation for US laws preventing bank transfers to Internet gambling websites (even if the website is in the US BTW) and for the US refusing to pay the WTO-ordered compensation for the loss of revenue from potential customers in the US. (Both Antigua and Barbuda and the US signed the WIPO Copyright Treaty, and that is why the WTO had to grant permission to treat US intellectual property differently in the first place.) However, the WTO waiver doesn't allow Antigua and Barbuda to treat everyone else's intellectual property the same way.

Although the complaint was made by the US Advanced Access Content Systems (AACS) licensing Administrator, AACS copy protection is used in other countries, and devices or software that are intentionally designed to break it are illegal under the copyright laws of Antigua and Barbuda. I'm guessing that is why the case was not thrown out of court.

At any rate, the $30,000 fine is hardly going to break SlySoft, and it doesn't sound like the authorities in Antigua and Barbuda are going to order them to stop selling their software.

  6. Before starting a global sweep, MPAA / RIAA / AACS/LA & LA PEG LA should start sweeping home-land first and ensure that not a single US based website is sharing or streaming a single illegal contents.

How many US based websites operates globally and make millions from various part of globes, Do they pay heavy registration fees in millions or justified local taxes? If they do, small government can meet their some expenses very well. Let US based companies with their bloody policies bleed heavy in other part of the Globe before they make a single penny.

Couples of African Villages I visited, where Humans are not having enough to live-on, walk bare-foot in a hot 40 degree summer day to get a one pot of water, Bata and US based companies sells shoes there for $99.99 or more.

When I posted my view here, most reader might have taken for granted that I am against of original OP of this post.
I do appreciate original OP this post who focused a lime lights into What is happening around the world and gave me chance to express my review.

  7. enim: I agree there is a lot of corruption, but it happens even in every community not just in politics. I never intended to make a political statement here. Rather, just to voice a consideration that Slysoft are apparently being targeted as an accessory before the fact, and as such may advocate to withdraw from the arena altogether. I doubt it will happen anytime soon, but while a $30,000 fine wont break Slysoft it is enough to cause them to ponder the future, this in light of the company being listed in the annual United States Trade Representative (USTR) review of so called 'Notorious Markets'.

“The United States urges the responsible authorities to intensify efforts to combat piracy and counterfeiting, and to use the information contained in the Notorious Markets Review to pursue legal actions where appropriate” (although it has no legal authority whatever, it only takes one ambitious zealot to quote from it to cause a potential sh*tstorm).

    http://www.ustr.gov/sites/default/files/2013_Notorious_Markets_List-February_12_2014.pdf

I can imagine Slysoft's future laden with lawsuits for aiding and abetting counterfeiting (not just piracy).
Again, I just want to wish them luck in their future battles.

  8. Last link you posted mention about all over the places like China, Indina, Finlad, South America.
I guess they forget to mention tons of places within US itself.
I know tons of places in NY, FL, CA, TX list is pretty long where you can get any damn DVD for $1.00. You mane it, They got it.
Not even limited to media I know places in US where you can get fake Nike, Rebbok, RayBan and all other major brands........
I guess this might a official version for US Officials unofficially.

WHY DOES THE REPORT TO THE PRESIDENT MISSED OUT PLACES IN HOME?
any clue? Bunch of green paper weights under the table might have erased or ommited such in home places successfully.

only think one has to learn free happy life:
Just keep US influences, products, and policies way far away from your reach.

As a human, I do respect Americans, I do have a few warm hearted American friends, but, I just hate dirty policies hurting humans all over the world in name of various greed which make other lives miserable.

As a human, I, more precisely we collectively, do support a kid's education who lost family members in recent WAR.
Can any one here detail a picture of a crying kid's eyes saying "You are not my real parents! How much they miss real ones."

  10. As US know to finger with money, and if I were a Antigua's Judge....
I would take $$$$ Millions under from US Authorities/Companies the table to pass a condition Judgment for a limited time period, would supply some bytes SlySoft to pay fine officially out of under table $$$$. Any additional amendment in judgment cost extra $$$$$$$$$$.

Um, I guess that somehow it has escaped your notice that they actually do investigate all complaints made against US based websites for violation of copyright laws and fine them or put them out of business if the complaint is valid, as well as prosecute individual US citizens for illegal file sharing. There are anti-counterfeiting and anti-bootlegging operations here too, and much of the merchandise they confiscate was imported from some other county.

  12. No hope relying on the President to order a review. Hollywood sponsored his election campaign to the tune of 4.5 million dollars.
Celebrities donated over half a million collectively.

Let me tell you about a serious joke published on a funny news media.
"In a bar, Steev Harpoon (with a spoon in a hand) and PhoolOoops Hammer were discussing the policies over sugarcaine crisis and figuring out way to get the cream in Crimea, as if sugarcaine farm is part of their country. They absolutely forget about some in home burning issues like child pornography in school, hooks & drug rackets in every street, and employment crisis. They concluded to keep Donky Delegation to evaluate crisis and Topa Truppers ready, just in case if they receive some sort of official invitation. Finally they figured out nobody listen to them even in a bar and decided not to attend forth coming C8-commit as no body listen to them. When left bar fully drunk, both kept shouting O' mama O' mama."

If you relate above joke to politics, might be it is your problem.
We are discussing the matters in general because it definitely affect and effect us.

  17. while replying this serious thread, I left the bar with a spoon in my hand. I am still figuring out where I can use it. May be I will use to stir-up Nestle's newly promoted NATHO brand coffee. Outside the bar I just shouted "f***king, I am fooltoos alert!" considering shouting outside a bar as a tradition.

  19. Slysoft lost the case. As expected.

'In an Antigua & Barbuda court, Bettini was found guilty of six charges under the 2003 Copyright Act and ordered to pay a find of $5,000 per offense. Bettini was told to settle two of the $5,000 fines immediately, with payment of the other four deadlined for the end of April.'

    http://torrentfreak.com/slysoft-dvd-ripper-owner-found-guilty-in-criminal-action-140403/

'“[The Antiguan legal victory] gives us a concrete decision to take to others who facilitate SlySoft and their business. We can say to those who do business with them: ‘This is an illegal activity’,” AACS’s lawyer added.'

Guess that's a hint that Paypal, Mastercard et al are going to be asked to blacklist them.

Wouldn't it be great if everyone boycotted going to the movies for a year and just waited to rent the movie instead of buying it, I wonder how the rich and selfish would like us then, don't they realize were the one's who made them rich and powerful, Maybe they would be at our mercy then.

Technically speaking, Slysoft was ordered to pay a fine of $30000 in installments. I can't find evidence that they were ordered to stop distributing AnyDVD. It may be that this whole case is nothing more than a wink wink nudge nudge legal "victory" for the MPAA to make them shut the hell up and this will be the end of action taken against Slysoft. I'm sure that's not what the MPAA has in mind, but it may be exactly what Antigua has in mind - the MPAA "wins" in court, collects a rather paltry judgement against Slysoft, and then the Antigua legal system proclaims everything over and done with - forever - with regards to Slysoft, who is now free to continue with business as normal.

The past has shown that this won't really work. When revenues drop, the media producers fail to understand why and they double down or worse on "stopping piracy" and lawsuits as the only possible solution they can think of to the problem. Things get even more consumer hostile at that point.

Customer should keep their right to get what they lost in the past. Instead of paying for something they don't need, why can't the company giving a discount to their customers? It's really serious problem if the company just let it be,by the end of day, they will lost people.
