best format to download as

when downloading a movie from the internet what is the best format to download it as

is it??
1) divx
2) avi
3) mpg
4) mov

i would totally say that it depends if you want to play the movie in your dvd player or if you just want to play it on your computer.

if you want to play the file in your dvd player then you should really go for the mpeg (unless you want to spend hours re-encoding the avi file!!

if its just computer playing that you want for the best quality and the more efficent file size then i would go for the avi (and btw most avi's are divx compressed anyway).

in my opinion i would never bother to download a mov file the quality is poor.

this is just my personal opinion no doubt others will disagree hope ive been some help.

what i would like to do is download a movie from the internet and make a VCD or SVCD and burn it and watch it on my DVD player which is compatible with VCD and SVCD (it is the Dandai 852)

i am looking for the best quality even if it takes me a couple of hours to encode it.

can anybody help?

if you are wanting the best quality download a stright mpg2 file this will allow you to burn a svcd and watch this on your dvd player.
