  1. I just learned how to make my large .mpg files fit on a CDR by converting them to VCD with Nero and (over-)burn them.

Now, is there a way to get the original .mpg file back from the
VCD .dat-format, or is the conversion MPG to DAT done by
    Nero irreversible?

    Thanks

    Use VCDgear.
You can find it in the Tools-section of this site.

  3. If i understand you right you want to get the mpeg file back from the burned vcd you just made.
do like this, copy the vcd to your harddrive rename the file in the mpegav map (Avseq01.dat)
to the name the movie have, example... terminator.mpg
now you have your mpg file back.
hope you understand what i mean ....... :D

  4. ... maybe I did not specify clearly that I would like to get the
ORIGINAL .mpg file back after converting MPEG to VCD and back to MPEG. Is this possible? Thanks again for helping.

    Example:

    1) my origianal file xyz.mpg is 842,726,556 bytes big

    2) after using Nero the xyz.dat file burnt on CDR is 853,021,052 bytes big,
so it is obvioulsly a different (converted) file, not just a change of the extension

    3) now I would like to get the ORIGINAL 842,726,556 bytes MPG file back by converting back from DAT to MPG, is this possible (with VCDgear etc?)

  5. Generally I use IsoBuster from www.isobuster.com. Open the VCD, select the DAT file and use the option to extract and filter MPEG frames.
