I want to get the 'frame doubling interpolation' using PotPlayer but I don't want to install SmoothVideo Project (SVP). Recently I discovered that Potplayer comes with AviSynth support but for some unknown reason I can't get it to work.

The 'How to use AviSynth'' link points to a Korean guide here:

Can someone post a guide in plain English so everyone can understand how can be done? Thank you.

  2. There's nothing special.. You need to install avisynth and the plugin to use in your system. You can get the both links in the screenshot above.

ps. copy interframe plugin to "c:\Program Files (x86)\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\".

  3. I have Avisynth installed but not a MT (multi-threaded) version. Therefore the only script which worked for me was the colorbars one. You need a MT version for the rest so I couldn't check any of this.

There's an SVP version of Avisynth which I assume is multi-threaded. I'd try it.

Install Avisynth. Don't change the default installation location. That might be bad. Avisynth should install with a subfolder called plugins. For XP it's located:
    C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins
There'll probably be a file or two inside. Just leave them.

It looks like the scripts require two plugins. One of those is MVTools.
    http://www.svp-team.com/files/gpl/mvtools-2.5.11.9-svp.zip
That's the SVP version of MVTools, not the standard one, but I think it's the correct one. Unzip it and copy the dlls inside to the Avisynth plugins folder.

The other plugin is InterFrame. You can download it from here. http://www.spirton.com/interframe/
When you've unzipped the InterFrame-2.5.1.zip file, copy the unzipped folder to avisynth/plugins. There's another folder inside it, so you should end up with a folder structure like this:

    AviSynth 2.5\plugins\InterFrame-2.5.0\InterFrame2.avsi
AviSynth 2.5\plugins\InterFrame-2.5.0\Dependencies\svpflow1.dll (there's three other dll files in the same folder).

I think that's it. If the planets are lined up just the right way and it's not raining too hard hopefully that'll work. The problem with Avisynth plugins is there's often many versions of each and different flavours of each version.... but if I've got it right you should be able to check the "Use Avisyth Filters" box and select a script from the drop down box marked "Preset". Go with the one called colorbars first. That's a built-in Avisynth function. If it doesn't work there's no way the rest will. If it's working, you should see colorbars instead of a video (they probably won't appear unless a video is playing). If it works, try the rest. Please report back to let me know how it went.

Ha, ha it really works even if the 'soap opera effect' is not so visible as with similar software like Splash Pro (Motion²), but it works. Big thank you for the guide!

  5. I'm glad it worked. If you're still around.....

I was reading a little about Interframe today and apparently Avisynth 2.6 MT is recommended. It seems you don't install it as such. You install Avisynth, then just replace the avisynth dll in the Windows system folder with the MT 2.6 version linked to in the doom9 thread.

For all I know the SVP version of Avisynth might actually be the same one, only they're still calling it Avisynth 2.5.8, or maybe it's a different version again. If you're not having any problems then I'd leave things as they are, but if you do have problems when using Avisynth, give the 2.6 version I linked to above a go.

Just a side note for anyone else coming here... AVISynth used to work fine installed as is with Potplayer on my system and then suddenly stopped playing AVS files. After researching, I found that I have both the 32 bit and the 64 bit versions of Potplayer installed but AVISynth is strictly 32 bit (x86) on my system.

It seems when I launched Potplayer from my desktop Icon it was the 32 bit one but when I double click a video it launched the 64 bit version. And subsequent drag and drop to the 64 bit version would fail.

Just a caution note. Great work by everyone getting it working!

but insctruction has long been added http://www.parkoz.com/zboard/view.php?id=my_tips&no=15368
what is difficult? (just install AVISynth 2.6.0, download plugins.zip (plugins folder unpack in AVISynth folder & upack avisynth.dll in SySWOW64)
    you don't need alternatives
