What kind of AVI files are these? Are you trying to rip a DVD movie with subtitles? Or is it for something else?

    Subtitles format is .ssa
I know how to do it in virtualdub with subrip plugin and with TMPG, but I want to know how to do it with some other program.

  5. Second and last probably...

Its working now, all I really had to do was make the .smi files, the thing was they were just 1KB in size tried the other (x2 something or other).sub that was in subrip... and then it worked.

I'm editing this post because I found some answers, using vobsub you can convert into .ssa using subresync.exe however when i start submux to add my .avi file along with my brand new .ssa file i get 240Kb worth.. seems awfully shot not even 1sec long... How do I get the whole movie not just 1sec?

Maybe this is a dumb question but bear with me, I'm a newbie as I'm sure most of you have been at one time or another =)

I have the subtitles to Brotherhood of the wolf they are in .srt format and as I understood it all I had to do was to use subrip and convert them into .sub then use sub2sami (.smi) put it in the same directory and then use windows media player with caption on. However this doesnt work... I get the text box alright but there is no text in it... Am I doing something wrong or should I do it some other way? I noticed that you could add .ssa to .avi (the format of the film is .avi) is there someway to convert either .srt, .ssa or .sub to .ssa that might help this problem if I then use VobSub...
