  1. I'm trying for better quality with this divx file, I've tried different bitrates with TMPEG, but I can't seem to see a real difference, so I got the panasonic MPEG encoder. But it says "necessary codecs(driver) not found" I have angelpotion, divx4.12, radium and lame codecs.
What codec (or driver) could it need?

    Thanking you in advance,

p.s. I can see the movie play in preview mode but it doesn't want to encode.

  4. First off, get rid of anglepotion. If it hasn't given you problems, chances are, in the future it will.

Secondly, Panasonic is an excellent encoder, but so is TMPEG. The fact that you aren't geting any better quality has nothing to do with the encoding software. You are trying to encode a Divx movie file. These files are heavily compressed to begin with. The fact that your taking a compressed file and trying some other compression on it will never make it better quality.

To help smooth the pixilations, might I suggest using VirtualDub. It has excellent filters to play with. Then you frameserve the process through TMPEG for you final MPEG file. This is something that the Panasonic software can't even do.

Mind you, it takes a little longer, but for a Divx movie, it comes out half decent.

    Hope this was helpful.

  5. Thankyou Marbles_00, helpful? Yes.

Is it the anglepotion codec that's causing problems for me?

It's very strange to be able to view the movie in preview mode but as soon as you hit encode or start or whatever in panasonic I get the "necessary codecs(driver) not found" error.

In virtual dub, what filters do you suggest (to tone down blockies in fast action scenes) ?

In TMPEG I've tried encoding everything from vcd regular all the way up to 2250kps in xvcd mode--to high quality to 2 passvbr to CQ mode to noiseblock on and it all looks the same to me. I realize that the divx is pretty compressed (garbage in---garbage out) but I thought I could approach the original "quality"

My wife is getting more frustrated than me however, "arent you done messing around with that yet"?

Once again, appreciate all the help.
