I am looking at buying a used Dell Latitude CPXH or CPXJ off eBay for a DVD viewing/Ripping device. Does anyone have experience with the DVD-ROM drives included with these units? Any good at ripping? Fast, slow? Can be made region-free?? Yes, no?
I know they have ATI Mobility video, so playback will be excellent. :P

in my experience, CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, CD-RWs in laptops are very delicate...they break easily. if you plan on ripping using a laptop's DVD-ROM, be warned that it may speed up it's break-down
also, i'm not sure about dell's laptops, but i heard dell's desktops come with toshiba 16X DVD-ROMs that can rip no faster than 2X..it may apply to dell's laptops as well
