VTS_01_1.VOB - 720x576 , PAL 4:3 (16:15 ), 25.0000 fps
Video Output > Mpeg4 AVC ( x264 ) > Constant Quantiser (Single Pass) > Quantiser = 30
Others - kept the default (I don't know what means) : Fast First Pass > Macroblock-tree Rate Control >
Frametype Lookahead : = 40 > IDC Level = Auto > OK
Filters > crop (removed black borders: L = 30 , R = 10 , T = 8 , B = 16) > swsResize (the one I have) >
Lock Aspect Ratio > Source: > 4:3 > Destination: > 4:3 > Resize Dimensions > Widht: / Height: > after crop = 680 / 552, changed now to 720, which makes Height = 584 > Round to the Nearest Multiple of 16, turns the Height now to 576
ErrorX / Y: 0.00 / -1.39 <<< [Does this mean a vertical distortion? I noticed that the error was 0.00 / 0.00 to size = 720x584. Should I keep disabled the Round option?] > Resize Method : Lanzcos3 > OK
Audio Output > AAC (Faac) > Configure> 384 > OK
Filters (I'm not sure about these) > DRC > disabled > Remix > enabled > 44,100 > Shift > disabled > OK
Output Format > MP4 Muxer > Configure (default kept) > Muxing Format > MP4 > Use alternate MP3 tag > enabled
Playing the video with Media Player Classic Home Cinema [1.7.1 ( 9ae7b7c] - Display Mode = 100 % > the edited video image is displayed in 720x576, however the original VTS_03_1.VOB appears in ~768x576 - not 720 , but 768. In Avidemux both are displayed in 720x576. Under no circumstances I realize those typical distortions of aspect ratio errors!
Questions
1. Why the MPC-HC displays the original VOB higher than the same edited video (when GSpot says both have 720x576)?
2 . What is more appropriate in the Resize: enable or disable the option "Round to the Nearest Multiple of 16"?

1. Because the DAR is 4:3, 720x576 gets resized at playback to some 1.33:1 ratio, one such as MPC-HC's 768x576. Apparently you didn't set a PAR when encoding so it gets played back at the wrong aspect ratio (everyone too tall and thin) of 1.25:1 (720x576=1.25). Either set it when encoding or resize to some 1.33:1 ratio, ones such as 768x576 or 640x480.
I don't use AviDemux so maybe someone else can provide more information.
