  1. i just got CCE to hear what the buzz is all about and i'm lost with all the settings. by default when i try to convert to vcd or svcd, the bitrate is always 6000kbs. what should the bitrate be to make a vcd-compliant vcd? bitrate for svcd? then i got lost in elementray stream and system stream, which one do i pick? lastly, after conversion, i get an mpa and an mpv file. i multiplexed them with tmpg but with cce how do i make an .mpg file directly? it's pretty fast i must admit.

p.s. the speed varies but most of the time it's at 1.23 is that a good figure? how do i increase/decrease that?

i know it's a lot of questions, all help is greatly appreciated. thanks and have a good day!

The manual, that came with your cce copy and the "what is ... " section will answer all your questions. Please read.

  3. i did read the manual, nowhere does it specify the standard bitrates. when i try to select the template for vcd or svcd i see this:

    super vcd is not selectable
    vcd is not selectable

the manual suggests mpeg2 (system stream), yet the bitrate is still at 6,000 which is a little too high.

(S)VCD is not selectable if the source resolution is not according to the (S)VCD standards. CCE can not resize unless you select half vert / hori.
You do not select a template but only the output format. So change the bitrate manually. You can write your own templates, this is explained in the manual too. If you want to use cce sp 2.64 to encode svcd compliant MPEG, you have to resize the source to 480x480 / 576 before loading into cce. Check the "what is..." section to see which bitrates you can use.
