I've been been trying to capture VHS using my EasyCap and VirtualDub, but I've noticed that every time there is an inserted frame it will be the same frame as the very first captured one. This is a problem when there will suddenly be several random (e.g.) blue frames on a bad section of the tape. Is there any way to prevent this, or even insert the previous frame again, rather than the very first one?

You can try turning off/on the "insert null frames..." option in Capture -> Timing.
