I've got a sony dvp-ns305 dvd player and i want to make it region free. I've seen a load of websites saying different things.
This was posted on here a while ago but it said i have to use a palm pilot witch I've never heard of!
Also i bought this in London (region 2) and the dvd player remote that came with it does not have numbers on it.

    Any help is appreciated!!

The Sony NS-305 is VERY old (around 2002). The only way to make it Region free without a Palm Pilot, was to solder a chip across 2 rails inside, which 10 years ago cost me about £10. I doubt that chip is available now.

Great. Another guy who beat the odds and his 10+ year old DVD player still works but because he paid 150 pounds for it over a decade ago, he won't give it up.

Palm Pilot was an attempt to sort of do the things that smartphones now do but without the phone part of it. You can research the subject if you wish. They are pretty obsolete now. I had a Sony knock off that was somewhat similar and it's so useless today that I threw it away recently.

Those old Sony DVD players were pretty crappy anyway. They were fussy as hell about consumer burned media. If you ever give up, you should be aware that currently Sony and Samsung make the most difficult players in the world to unlock so if you buy a new player that they make, good luck getting that unlocked too.

I noticed that someone posted a hack using an OFA RC, but if you don't already own a One For All RC, buying one would cost more than the DVD player is worth (even if a hack from years ago still works). Probably time to research modern BD/DVD players that are Region/Zone free.

The OFA hack works on nearly all Sony dvd players sold in Europe, USA ones are different and E.U. blu rays inc. latest 3D models s 4100/s5100 are easy to hack for DVD region free only..
