Help!: Japanese Subtitles appear as boxes

Issue: When transcoding a MKV file to MP4 with subtitles(MKV-> MP4) , Japanese Characters appear as boxes. (Similar to [] )
Details: There are English Translation(English text),Japanese Characters(Japanese Text/Characters), Japanese Words(English Text)Please view example below.

I have been following the settings in this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbCDTN--XGA

I understand that Media Coder does not work well withforeign languages like Japanese and Korean. However, previous MKV files I haveconverted with the same exact settings has worked with Japanese charactersshown. I have also tried to change my system locale to Japanese then run MediaCoder with no success.

I have looked at threads similar to my issue but no viablesolution.
