on my new windows 8 notebook pc, I notice all my video that I convert to divx, automatically gets encoded to divx6 instead divx5, like on my old pc.
The problem is that my newly encoded video, will not play on my dvd player with divx6 codec in the avi, but all divx5 video from my old pc play ok on my dvd player. What do I do to convert them to divx5 if I do not have my old pc anymore ?

I do not see any old versions on divx5 on the divx.com website. see my screen shot-

Ignore the word Mp4 in the 1st window, its avi !

  2. One problem is the frame size. Your DVD player won't play any file over 720 pixels wide or 576 pixels tall.

Just because you renamed the file from .MP4 to .AVI doesn't make it an AVI file. Or vice versa. Divx6 (ASP) uses the same fourcc as Divx5 (ASP) and is backward compatible. So that shouldn't be an issue. Post the full MediaInfo report for the Divx6 file.

ok, I fixed it and found out the size of the resolution makes no difference, I downloaded an old version of divx5 and opened in virtualdub the divx compression and now it works.

  4. Are you sure you used the Divx6 ASP encoder? Not the AVC encoder?
