It seems the author of the original Download Statusbar extension has been busy saving us from the Firefox developers decisions with a new extension called Download Status Bar.

I must admit it annoys me when a new version of Firefox breaks existing extensions without any warning and it really, really annoys me when those extensions are amongst the most popular. ie Download Statusbar. You'd think the Firefox developers would look at an extension, see how popular it is and maybe consider thinking something along the lines of "is that what users want?"

I can't say I've tried the new extension myself yet, as I've been happy to stay with Firefox 24. The original Firefox download window was painful enough but the new system sounds horrible. With any luck the new Download Status Bar will provide similar functionality to the old extension.

If anyone trying it has used the old extension, maybe they could report here regarding how the new one compares?
