The two big hooks at the top beg for use during bleach baths, I bet. THEN maybe sandblasting. And maybe another boiling bleach bath. Gamey's monitor should look new.

"Yeah - but a new what?"

    Oh well...

(I was thinking of 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, when Captain Nemo had to get rid of that fungal-loaded giant octopus. He used electricity, then. Hmmm...)

I solved this mystery with my latest monitor after my last two (or was it three?) died a quick death.

I actually - yes REALLY - bought one of those extended warranties. I never buy such policies since it's like buying fungus in most cases, but for a monitor, and after my experiences, I've made an exception.

So since I know it will be covered as long as the policy, that's how long the monitor will last IMO. After that, I'm good regardless since I will want the latest and greatest after some 5 years anyway.

Mystery solved AFAIC. Now to spend my time thinking about other things...

The E-EDID data a monitor sends using its normal video connections does not include usage time. This means there is no software that you can run on your computer to show the usage time in hours for your monitor.

Your monitor's internal service menu will show the "on time" in hours. If my instructions to display the service menu do not work, take your monitor to a computer repair shop and pay a technician to look for your monitor's usage time in hours.

Your questions have all been answered now.

Anybody want to bet he will either will not understand the answer or will not believe the answer and will repeat the question again? LOL

    Usually_Q,

I had avoided calling specific attention to your precise Page 1 instructions, hoping Gamey would respond by himself. Alas...

In a real-world, face-to-face encounter around a table, I'd deliver some not-too-veiled comment that called out this lack of responsiveness as an insult, still with the hope of provoking a polite response to you.

Maybe now, your continued research will provide that nudge. Or kick.

    Where's a Two-By-Four when ya need it?!!

My research was done about six months ago for my own benefit when I noticed that the fluorescent backlighting on the left side of my LCD monitor was dimmer than on the right side.

Look, people here have tried to help, regardless of the troll alerts and signs.

I'm not saying that you do, or even trying to be insulting, but IF you have mental problems, I feel for you, and give my good wishes in obtaining proper treatment.

    I'm done with this thread.

It is said that Christmas should be the time of peace and goodwill to all men.

But here the pantomime season has started early. And no guesses who the villain is.

Aren't you worried about fungus on the cpu or ram and how that affects their longevity?

  20. It's worth noting that even Crystal Balls can have issues. Once, when asking a Crystal Ball about the longevity of Crystal Balls, the darn thing froze up. They apparently have a very high manufacturing defect rate... I went to the Mall fo a replacement, and every single one didn't work.

Fortunately, all ended well. I spent several hours on the phone with Tech Support, and got it resolved. They don't have a 1-800 number, so the long distance phone call to Hogsmeade cost a fortune. But it's working again.

For future reference of people who may have similar issues with Their Balls, I'll share what I learned. Apparently, asking it questions about the longevity of devices composed of numerous components that each have their own MTBF and are indeed pieced together from components manufactured all over the planet is, to be blunt, a little too much for it to figure out.

As was pointed out to me in the Crystal Balls manual, it's possible that asking too many silly questions can result in "Burn In", just like on a Plasma TV or old CRT, and that to alleviate some of this by asking it questions about Schrodinger's Cat.

Oh, such an enlightening phone call it was!!! After we got the Crystal Ball working again, but before I could ask it another dumb question, the Tech mentioned something that will haunt me for all my days. A true epiphany...

When it comes to determining the longevity of high tech devices that are composed of thousands of components, it's solution is every bit as simple as Schrodinger's Cat... At some point, your going to press the power button and it might be dead. Fortunately, their is Silicon Heaven, and your wondrous marvel of technology is sitting happily next to all the Beta Max machines of years gone by.

For you, well, just buy a new one, and be done with it.

Methinks that's called syphalis. Perhaps if they dropped off he would stop posting while he worried how to re-attach them

Or he would start a new thread about their durability and longevity, and questioning if they would be deleted
