I was wondering if its possible to convert the audio of a video clip to MP3 only using ffdshow script or do I need to download a MP3 codec ? and if so what does the script look like ? and/or where can I download the MP3 codec ? only the mp3 codec because I do not like Large codec collections.

I have windows media installed, but when I load the video which is in PCM audio , the audio compression does not let me change the bit rate for converting to MP3- see screen shot - http://w1funurl.webs.com/vd-audio.jpg

    what have I missed ?

I already have, the problem now is any driver that consists of driver.inf is not automatically installed anymore by windows 8.
Now they expect you to convert the file - This can be done by using the Inf2Cat tool that is provided by Microsoft via the Windows Driver Kit
