DVD slideshow GUI "hangs" on Save

Using 0.9.5.4 with a new system - Windows 7 and AMD FX 8350 CPU (8 core). Have used DVD Slideshow GUI in the past with old system - VERY impressive!

But now, it starts fine and seems to work fine - get photos and does previews. But it won't Save Project, nor Save Project As, nor Export. I put in a few photos as a test. Everything seems to work . . .

But when I hit "Save" the window dims a little bit but then nothing happens. I thought it was "hung," but just found that hitting "esc" key restored the window to active. But nothing saves! This reversible freeze happens with Save, Save As and Export.

I uninstalled then reinstalled DVD GUI - no change. Still the "freeze." Rebooted. Same things happen.

Is this a program conflict? How do I move forward? I really like the program's capabilities and want to use it.

I'm kinda surprised I've gotten no help. Starting on Thanksgiving couldn't have helped. . .

Latest - I uninstalled and then re-installed in Safe Mode. DVD GUI worked! Saved a test file! But when I rebooted into normal mode (Win 7) the program still "stalls" - also on Open file, as well as Saves and Export. Darn! I turned off my firewall, Comodo, and antivirus, Avast, and tested. Nope: DVD GUI still "stalls," so they don't cause it. Turned 'em back on.

Searching for OK in Safe mode but not in normal mode hasn't led me to how to troubleshoot - mostly that leads to Operating System issues.

Suggestions, please?
