  1. Hey How are you ?

I new its kind of old and maybe its too late for that but I was wondering where can I find a good VCR ? I had some old video tapes used to work on my old LG VCR which was stored for more than 10 years and now its not working perfectly & everytime I had to use some cleaning tapes but its not a long lasting solution !!! I read the VCR buying guide posted in this forum but where can I find these VCR??? I checked ebay but they are very expensive. I mean around $150 plus $15 shipping or more !!! I dont know if thats normal nowadays or overrated but I need your help guys

    Thanks

You didn't say what VCR you were looking at on Ebay, buy $150 seems kind of cheap for a "good" vcr. I would expect $300+ for a good used model and $800+ for a new machine.

I can find professional / prosumer JVC and Panasonic decks available for sale in my local old time electronics repair shop (but those shops are getting even more rare than VCRs). You can look in the phonebook to see if you have a shop local, but make sure it's a place you can trust.

If you want a "cheap" vcr check garage sales and flea markets. I can usually find them for $2 - $5 when people in my neighborhood have garage sales. Its worth going garage sale and flea market hunting.

I should have typed unopened old stock instead of new in my post above.

you can also pick one up at a tv repair shop. on occasion, i will see some jvc's and toshiba's in one place i browse, hoping to spot an industrial model. you find their because many people give up on them for other types of players today and leave them in the shop to rot. so, it wouldn't hurt to check a repair shop near you.

  10. I don't see any location info in your profile. What country do you live in? Some have a wider variety of good used VCRs than others. We can narrow down which models to look for in your country once we know where you live (US/Canada is easy, Europe more difficult, Middle East and areas like Malaysia can be very difficult).

95% of "modern" PAL VCRs PLAY NTSC tapes.....but it is VERY difficult to capture an NTSC tape played on a PAL VCR. If you are buying a VCR to capture NTSC VHS tapes.....only buy an NTSC VCR.
