I notice if Im playing a large 720p + file (thats also large in file size 1gb+) on VLC when I hit the hotkey to forward 3 seconds, the video doesnt forward or it even goes back 3 seconds. I have to hit the button a few times to get it to go forward. This is a little annoying. I want to be able to just forward a few seconds at a time and hitting the key a few times or holding it down forwards too much. Is there a better player to play large files? or any other solutions?

  2. It's partly the nature of long-GOP media. The player may need to search 10 seconds or more before the frame you are at to build the frame you are seeing. Some players buffer better than others, some of it depends on your system. Long duration files are particularly problematic.

You can check out any of these: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/video-players

VLC and MPC-HC are among the most popular.

    I think thats its.

I just found a work around. I usually use a hot key to skip forward 3 seconds. The next biggest jump is a 10 second skip, which I feel is too far. When I try the 3 second skip with larger files, it remains at the same time, or even skips backwards. I just set up a 10 second skip hot key and when I use that it skips forward 5 seconds, which is close enough.

I'll stick to VLC as it pretty much does everything I need and I like it. Thanks.

  4. Try turning off the "fast seek" option. It's in the Input/Codecs section. You must be in "Show Settings -> All" view to see the option.

Its not skipping to the next key frame. Im simply uses the short and medium forward jump button. The short jump skips 3 seconds forward and the medium skips 10 seconds.

A large file could be anything, how about some actual real details ?
