    Sup,

Have opportunity to begin shooting vids for several realtors. Deal is good with potential to sell additional vids to new owners and maybe previous owners too. Clueless though about how to present vids. Vids will need to be viewable on realtors website but I want complete control of vids.

1-Do I get my own server or use a 3rd party site to house vids to be streamed?
2-What is best to avoid viewer lag?
3- What is best to avoid requirement for viewer to download anything such as plug-in etc?
4- Want to protect piracy from "average" user. I realize anything can be hacked. Most viewers/buyers will not think about pirating the vid until after the house sale. Upon the sale of home I will replace the vid with a pic with "Sold" banner across it.
5- I know nothing about embedding vids. Where is best to learn?
6- If I am embedding vids on another's site, can I be blocked?

    Just looking to learn. Thx

    Jeff

  2. Why are you concerned about "controlling" your video? Once the house is sold, they are worthless. I don't think many people will want a video of the house they live in, or one they used to live in.

The realtor will most likely take complete ownership of the product. It's a sales tool, not great art.

    1. It will be on the realtor's server, or one of the local realty association.

    2. For the viewer to have a hi-speed connection.

    3. They will need Flash or some other player.

    4. I doubt you will have that ability.

5 and 6 I have no idea, but strongly suspect it will not be your concern.

Shoot the video, get paid, hand it to the realtor. Anything else is really out of your hands.

    Dude,

Your opinion of the value of the work is of no interest to me. I have not expounded on the work because it has no bearing on my OP. Were I to tell you what the actual work was, you would retract your comment about it.

    Your answers are worthless too.

    1. Due to how I will be working with the realtor, I will be controlling the vid. Since that is the plan, I was asking if it would serve me better to use a 3rd party server or operate my own. Again, I am just beginning to understand this, so I do not really know the benefits for either choice. I am curious about the streaming speeds, embedding, protection, and difficulties such as inability to view on different OS's or browsers, requiring the viewer to download Flash player etc.

    2. No shit Sherlock. Of course higher speed connections on the viewers end will improve lag. What I meant was "What can I do the improve this from my end. does it differ from 3rd party, or even my own server?" I am sure there are other points that I do not know anything about.

    4. I will have that ability, if you are referring to changing the vid to a pic. You did not respond to the actual point about protection. Maybe another on the forum has actual knowledge about the subject.

5 + 6 are of interest or I would not ask

I would use a third party hosting, for example amazon s3. See http://www.mywpexpert.com/embed-videos-amazon-s3-jw-player/

  5. 1. Home server setups on a residential line are generally a bad idea, not the least of which is because it's probably a violation of your ISP's TOS.

    2. If it can be seen, it can be copied.

  6. I have worked with dozens of realtors who are doing this NOW, some on very high-end homes. I have Never, Ever, seen any of these vids hosted anywhere other than the Realtors, or associations, web site.

Never seen or heard any mention of the videos being available or even desired for any further distribution.

Realtors are EXTREMELY possessive about their property listings, to allow a sales tool for a particular property to leave their hands is just something they are not going to do.

You are either doing something other than what you described, or are unfamiliar with how the business works. I am fairly familiar with real-estate vids as a sales tool, as used by licensed realtors who are my customers.

If what you are doing is advertising for an interior decorator, that's different. BUT, for a realtor to put a vid of their listed property on a third-party website (other than a local realty association), under someone else's control, that just ain't happening.

On one hand, your are describing a sales tool, on the other, something to which you want to retain rights and limit access. These two goals are in nearly direct opposition.
