I am trying to save all my old PAL analog movies to VCD. I don't have a DVD writer, only CD.
I can connect my old camera, through my Sony Digital camera, to my Pinnacle DV capture card.
This works fine for capture, but problem One, I cannot seem to change any settings as it detects it as a DV capture, I cannot even change the sound to mono (but at least I guess I am capturing the highest possible quality at this step?).
Then, I want to save the movie to whatever format will give the least quality loss, each movies is 45 minutes. I am using Nero to burn the CD's
I have tried VCD, SVCD and nothing seems to work just right, either the quality is no good, or the picture ratio is changed!?
I also can't work out how to set the output as mono, to save some cd space that way?
Knowing that I cannot improve the qulaity of the original old recordings, please can someone give me an idea, what actual resolution would they be in? and maybe I can work from there? What format should I render the movies in? MPEG1 or MPEG2 (and settings?), or any other thoughts about Nero settings for VCD. SVCD, etc etc?
Thanks alot.
