  1. Hello.

I've made my Philips BDP7700 region free for dvds using these instructions:
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/philips-bdp7700/11892

However, the player is somewhat unstable, most likely due to old firmware (version 3.17). It occasionally jams in such a way that it becomes totally unresponsive and the only way to solve it is to unplug the power cord.

I would like to upgrade the firmware, but I'm hesitant because I don't know what will happen to the region-free-dvd-hack? Will it get removed? If yes, does anyone know if the aforementioned hack can be applied to the latest firmware of BDP7700.

    The latest software is 3.71:

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, there is an absolutely fantastic chance that if you upgrade the firmware it will indeed remove the region free capability although it may also fix your stability problems. You have to decide which is more important to you. I need to warn you that in some players you can't ever downgrade the firmware, so if you apply this upgrade, it may be one way with no way to go back.

  3. Anyone else have any experience in software updates for Philips bluray players and what happens to the region hack for dvds? jman98's response makes not want to perform the update.

If the software update removes the region hack, what is the likelihood that the same hack (https://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/philips-bdp7700/11892) cannot be performed again?

  4. Still hoping that someone could answer my question above.

The player's instability is getting more annoying, but I do not want to loose the ability to play my region 1 dvds.

Were you able to download firmware to make this player play Region 1 BDs and DVDs? Also, does this player have zoom control? AND once you zoom in on the image, does the remote let you move the zoomed image up, down and sideways to center the part of the desired image on the screen? Zoom won’t work with all BDs but will with all DVDs. Please verify by testing ASAP. Thanks.
