    WRT: Corel Video Studio Pro X6 . . .

When I make video files I usually make MPEG but just now I made a WMV file via
    Share > Create Video File > WMV > WMV HD 1080 30P
and the resulting WMV file had a frame height of 1080 and a frame width of 1440 (!), and the aspect ratio was screwed up when played back on Windows Media Player (but curiously it was OK when played back on the Applian Media Player).

The same project creates a perfectly good mp4 file at 1080 x 1920.

So where are the settings for WMV file output and where is that 1440 coming from?

    Thanks in advance!

1440x1080 is one of the blu-ray formats. But I have no idea why it makes it like that.

Try search in http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewforum.php?f=1 for export settings.

These comments are based on an earlier version of the program. I do not have X6.

All the wmv HD set profiles are 1440*1080. On my version, these are shown in brackets on the selection screen.

If you want to have 1920*1080 you will have to select 'custom' from that option. Then 'options' >> profile >> customise >> new and build up a new profile as you want it.

This method should be explained in detail in the manual or the help screens. Or as Baldrick suggests go to the dedicated Corel forum for more detailed guidance.

I found Options > Create Video File > Custom, but I didn't know what to do after that.

1920x1080 is a pretty standard resolution - why wouldn't Corel have it out of the box? Does Adobe Premier Elements have it?
