  1. there used to be a program where I could take an mpeg and put it in this program then it would convert them to video_ts files in a folder then I could load them into shrink then create a dvd. is there still a program like this? if so where? also if i'm in the wrong board, I apologize.

I think you used DVDShrink to read MPG's and then used an authoring program to author new Video_TS folders that are burned to DVD disc.

Video_TS isn't a file format. It's a folder name found on DVD discs. The MPG files will be authored as "VOB" files inside a Video-TS folder on DVD's.

  3. So I just go to file and open, add the mpeg the select author then it converts it to as vob with the video ts folder? Can i do the same thing with more nd keep it in the same folder so It can create chapters so tospeak?

You can use AVStoDVD to make a new dvd-video from your mpeg file. If the file is already compliant to dvd-video specifications, AVStoDVD won't re-encode it, so the process will be fairly quick.

If the mpeg file isn't compliant, you may lose a bit of video quality while re-encoding, but most of the time you won't notice...depends on the movie and length of the video. You can make it to fit either a single layer dvd or double. Make certain to set the output to the necessary standard. We use NTSC in North America, but most of the rest of the world uses PAL standards.

I don't believe that's the case if you tick Option -> Preference -> Video -> Keep MPEG2 DVD Compliant Video.

Also DVDStyler won't re-encode DVD compliant MPEG2 files.

The default setting in AVStoDVD is NOT to re-encode compliant mpeg2. The Quick Startup tutorial that now comes with it has that box checked.

  8. ok. is AVStoDVD free? also can I also use other types of videos? like let's say I have avi or mov etc. I want an all around vob converter. I'm going to make a DVD soon so I need something like that either today or tomorrow but would prefer today.

Sounds more to me that what you want is a video-DVD authoring program. Which is what AVStoDVD is. But it can produce DVD compliant MPEG2 files as well as VOB files are created as part as the authoring.

If you simply join the vids without making any cuts, it won't re-encode.

AVStoDVD doesn't include an editor or a joiner. You must be confusing it with another program.

  12. well what I want to do soon is do one video, then maybe add other videos to it so it'll make a chapter list. I am a host of a music program in Melbourne, australia, although I live here in the usa,and I was going to send an interview I did to a friend of mine so I want to add a couple of things to it so I can make a dvd that way. is that possible?

    Yes.

Both AVStoDVD as well as DVDStyler can do somewthing along these lines. Both will re-encode your files if needed as well as adjusting the bit-rate on your DVD in order to fit a target size (DVD-5/DVD-9/Custom).

    For DVDStyler some YouTube inspirations:
